Wednesday the 27th: Moab, Utah
Another day in Arches gave us time to explore the entire park and take a three hour hike to the Double O Arch. Weather was definitely permitting too, low eighties in the afternoon with a slight breeze. A pretty wonderful day.

First view was of Balance Rock. Somehow this formation gives you a little anxiety just looking at it. Seems like it could fall at any moment!

Next it was a visit to the iconic Delicate Arch. We decided to view this arch from a distance and spend a good part of the day hiking to the Double O and Landscape Arches. Nevertheless, Delicate Arch was awesome and looked like it was from another world.

These little guys were everywhere!

Part one of the day's hike led us to Landscape Arch. An incredible arch that is six feet at its thinnest section and as long as a football field. If those facts are not shocking enough, part of this arch fell off about eight years ago, 150 tons worth, while tourists were looking on. They have footage of it falling in the visitor center...it sounded like thunderbolts cracking. It makes you think twice about walking under the thinner arches, although they tell us that the average lifespan of an arch is 1000 years.

Wall Arch on the way to Double O:

Double O Arch. Pretty amazing natural form. The first image is the arch looking west. The next image is looking east with Kevin in view to give you an idea of scale.

If you can believe it, this formation is called Three Gossips. Fitting, don't you think? Similar to Bryce, a lot of the formations were named using the "call it as you see it" method.

Typical fin rocks in the park, the foundation of future arches.
